October 31st Meeting This was our very first meeting and unfortunately we were unable to advertise via posters because of some problems with paperwork and such. Here is what happened: 1. Member Information sheets were passed out for anyone interested in officially joining the club. This is an official part of becoming a club member. If you wish to become an official member, please ask one of the club officers for a Member Information sheet. 2. We need a club Treasurer! We elected a club Secretary but we need a Treasurer as well. If you are interested, please contact me via email: danor_of4@hotmail.com. Duties of the club Treasurer include the following:
Opening a club Trust Account in the Business Keeping a current record of the clubs finances. 3. For our discussion, we talked about possible campus activities such as observing the Sun through a solar telescope. Other topics included a field trip to Lick Observatory, the conjunction of Mercury and Venus, and how best to observe a meteor shower. Nasa is holding a naming contest for their new $500 million space observatory. It is currently referred to as SIRTF or Space Infrared Telescope Facility. The requirements are:
The winner gets the pleasure of watching the launch of the space observatory from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida in July 2002. Check the web site via the link above for more details! 4. The Vice President, Chris Braniff, gave a very informative presentation about the constellations Perseus and Cygnus which can be seen for the month of November. He also talked about the upcoming Leonid meteor shower, which will peak on November 18th! Thanks to everyone who came!
